I am trying to guage whether or not there would be much interest in renting space to store cars and do light repairs. I have located a potential space in North Round Rock with space for 6 or 8 cars, electricty, lounge area for a fridge, sofa, TV etc. also has a rest room. If I could get enough renters, this has a realistic shot of happening. But... I need to get a sense of whether or not people would be interested in something like this. If you were willing to rent space, what would you think a fair monthly price would be?
Thoughts?

I'm interested - I also have some big tools (example 2K hoist) that I could keep down there.

The movie Christine has a dumpy version of a place like that. I always wondered why there weren't more of these kind of places. It makes sense to me, since many people don't have the work area they need.

We are looking into the feasibility. Anyone who might be interested let me know. We need about four or five guys. It's be a great way to take load off of our garages and be a cool hangout.

Ok, agshelby and Mopar Maniac are seriously considering, between me and Ramon we are at four. Somewhere around 6 people is the target, more if we can get 'em.
10x20 storage at your local storage lot is $115- $125 month, this includes that, plus workspace and power and a place to hang out with like minded gearheads for just a little more.
...the feasibility study continues....

I would be interested also. How many people do we need to keep it in the $115 - $125 rate? And would we need a lease/contract or would it be month-to-month?

As we think about this some more, the business model may change a bit. Instead of storage, how does a rent by the day shop space for the DIY guy sound? Major equipment available, engine lifts, engine stands, floor jacks etc. Air Conditioned lounge area with TV and a fridge, crapper etc.
We have located a space, now just trying to find the best way to use it. As long as it pays for it self and provides a gearhead hangout all is good.
Thoughts from the community? Would any of you find something like this useful?

You would need to do a subscription vs. pay as you go. There just aren't that many of us who do our own work to cover the rent based upon hourly usage. I would consider paying a subscription or a fractional ownership - but it would have to include storage. I have plenty of room to work now - but would like to have room to store one car off-site.

Steven, you should have lunch with Ramon and I and discuss it. This could become a reality very easily. The actual business model is still fluid at this point.

Well I don't know about this idea, let me think.....I'M IN!!!!!!!!
Some years back, someone had a great idea and opened a self-service garage over on Riverside Dr. in Austin. They rented you a stall/ lift and the tools needed for whatever you were doing to your car. Didn't last a real long time though.
