Yes it's the most common colors, but it's cheap, low miles, and less than 10 miles from my house!
austin.craigslist.org/cto/2419396686.html - I'm SO tempted to get this to keep miles down on my LT1 car but Misty would flat shoot me!
Ok gang, went and looked/drove this car yesterday. It's not too much work for me, but Misty would shoot me, dammit, and I can't take being wounded.
It's not a bad car, just needs some attention.
Here's the full story!
The car is at a retirement home. The woman that owns it is a resident there and can no longer drive, and she asked the home to sell it for her. She's had it forever. It was bought new in Houston at David Taylor Cadillac/Buick and has been in Texas all it's life.
SO we'll start with the Worst, move to the bad, and then to the good.
Ready?
Keep in mind how picky I am.....
The worst is the car has a lifter ticking on the driver's side, sounds toward the rear. It's not loud, but it's there. My guess is the car has been sitting up for a while. Also, it has WAY TOO MUCH oil in it. Changing the oil might fix it, it was WAY above full. A kid that works there showed it to me, and I have a feeling he's the one that changed the oil. It was clean, but WAY too full. This car has the TBI 5.7 350 Chevy engine in it.
Now the bad, it's FILTHY...I mean YUCKO. I'm dying to clean it up! It also really needs a lot of comsetics:
Outside:
-Wood outline trim needs to be re-done and wood needs some touch-ups. Worse is below the tail gate license plate, the sun got it there.
-It's missing most of the black trim on the beltline stainless, and the stainless is pretty dinged up.
-The passenger front fender needs to be pulled out a little at the wheel-well opening in front of door. It's pushed in a little. Very simple fix.
- The rear wiper is missing
- The upper bumper plasti-chrome needs to be replaced (like they all do)
- Has stupid cracked window vent-visors. Hate those and need to come off ASAP.
- The antenna is stuck almost all the way down.
- There is a good scratch on the side of the rear bumper on the passenger side.
Inside:
- The driver's door panel ripped, and they taped it, and it looks TERRIBLE. Needs a new upper panel. Also they taped over the rear window switches. I pulled the tape off, and the window on the driver's rear works but the passenger rear has to be helped up...it's off the rear track.
- The lower driver's seat leather is worn. Easy fix at my upholstery guy's shop.
- The carpet has coffee stains here and there.
- It's DIRTY and needs to be detailed so bad!
- The right-rear speaker is blown and sounds BAD
- It's has a power-recliner on the passenger front seat, and it sticking (had the same issue on my 95 Park Ave and know how to fix it)
-A couple of the arm rests are warping, like they do.
Now the GOOD
Outside:
-No wrecks
-90% of the wood is still nice
-Paint would shine with a compound and wax, no peeling
-It has brand new Michelin tires, they're raised-letter, but they put the letters on the inside.
-Wheels are nice, as are centers
-All the doors work, tailgate works, as does glass hatch
-NO RUST! ZERO.
Inside:
-The center arm rest, the front passenger and rear seat are NICE. The driver's seatback is nice and the bottom is an easy fix.
-They had a window shade up and the dash is not cracked or warped
-The steering wheel has a cover and under it the leather is dirty but not rotten, looks like it would clean up.
-Headliner is perfect and the vista roof has the shades
-The carpet in the rear was covered with cardboard and is fine, ditto the 3rd seat.
Run and Drive
-80K miles and it drives like it. Steering is tight, brakes are smooth, rides smooth, shifts perfect (fluid nice and red), and is quiet. No rattles. Has a lot of power and runs smooth.
-No smoke, ran cool, and the underside is dry, not leaking.
-Power seats both work, locks work, has two keyless-entry fobs and both work.
-All the lights work
-Cruise control works
-All gauges work and everything was reading fine on the dash
-A/C compressor, accumulator are new. It was 102 degrees when I drove it and it was blowing ice in there.
-Has a new alternator
-Radio works, cassette works, all stock
I AM SO JEALOUS OF THE FULL GAUGES!
It sure would be fun to fix this one up. They'd look good next to each other in my driveway!
He'd take a grand for it. If I was not scared of my wife...I'd nab it for a daily runner. It's SUCH a good starting point, it's so tight and a few trips to Pick-N-Pull, some spray paint, Impala wheelsa, and some elbow grease and it'd look sharp.
