South Austin Salvage-Yarding

Well the Roady spent the day at Firestone getting aligned after I found out the front tires were worn badly on the insides, so Dad and I ran south and went yarding at the new Wrech-A-Part on Bastrop Hwy near the airport.

Scored a good set of 4-note horns from a CLEAN '95 sedan. Sorry there are not more pics...not to be vulgar but I was sweating my sack off...it was HOT today. 90's this afternoon and no clouds. WARM in the yard! Is it really only March???

This was a real shame. This is a 95 Roady sedan with only 89K miles on it. The leather seats were PERFECT, they just needed to be cleaned up. I almost grabbed the front one for a spare and the rear one to do the sedan seat conversion...SO TEMPTING. Sadly someone had BUTCHERED the door panels to get the window switches out. The wheels and steering column were gone, but other than that the car was very complete. It had a brand new alternator on it.....and the 4-note horns came home with me.







How about a Fiero convertible??

Ha...another term is "tugboat" horns. Big old cars, like Caddys, Buicks, and Oldsmobiles, actually had four horns from the factory, each play a different note, and when you press the horn, it sounds like a tug boat or train...funny stuff. My 79 Buick Limited has them...it's LOUD. You have two horns on the passenger side and two on the driver's side.

Well even in the 90's the Buick Roadmaster's still had the 4-note horns, but only the Sedans, not the wagons. The sedan is more closely related to the Caddy Fleetwood, which also had 4-note from the factory.

The Roady wagons, like mine, are basically just modified Caprice wagons, with Buick interiors. Buick wagons only came with 2-note horns, like a Caprice, both of which are mounted in the driver's side fender. BUT the mounting holes are there for the other two horns in the passenger side fender.

SO I nabbed the other two off the sedan in the pics, and will mount them in my wagon next weekend. It's a popular mod with wagon guys. They just bolt in, and you run one wire from the passenger side to the driver's side and splice into the existing horn wire. Easy!

A car a large as my Roady wagon needs a LOUD horn to match, right?? Ha!

That sounds cool, no pun intended. LOL...

I need something like that on my F150.
