Interstate Road System?

I am sure most know that all the Interstate Highways running North & South are odd numbers,
and the ones that run East & West are even numbers.

Why are I-30 and I-45 so short?

Why is there no I-50 or I-60?

Not a trivia question, since I don't know the answer.
