Bastrop Pics

Was beat when I got home last night so am just now getting around to posting these. Really a good show. Pretty weather in the 70's with a nice breeze. LOTS of cool cars and bikes, some nice veterans events, and I'd never looked around downtown Bastrop. It's neat!

As usual I went a little nuts with pics. Enjoy!

Got a good spot next to a gorgeous GTX, a Ford hot rod, and a 74 Chrysler New Yorker

The Ford rod was sharp, but the owner was all paranoid my kids were going to touch his car, so we didn't hang out there long...


Wild color unrestored New Yorker, sold new in Midland Texas, and has original finanace form on display under the hood.

Next up is kind of neat. The guy that came in this GMC was wearing a Save the Whales T-shirt! I was shocked. Really nice guy, lives in Leander, and just recently bought a white over grey 91 Olds Custom Cruiser. He's got a wrecked '94 9C1 and is about to swap the drivetrain into the Cruiser. We talked for a good while. He'd found the shirt for sale on the ISSF page. He will be getting our the forum soon. Anyway the truck was sharp, it's a '71 GMC with a 250 straight 6 and they did a body-off resto on it. Clean! They are actually selling it because they have a '72 C-10 and want to use the funds from the GMC to restore the C-10 next. Pretty cool!

This black Pontiac was GORGEOUS. The paintwork was amazing. I looked at it for 15 mins. Would have stayed longer if the kids would have let me.

Really a great show.

Put Tuck in the back seat, Eddie up front with me, windows down and cruise control set at 70mph, and drove back roads home, from Bastrop to Elgin and then through Taylor. No traffic, nice weather and big old Buick. Good day with my kiddos.

Really feel for the Mach 1 owner. Didn't go to this show but am planning on me and the Red Car being at the next.

Yeah, that Dodge Shelby is goofy. I saw you said it has fiberglass wheels. Whats that all about?

The Shelby CSX was the first car ever built with a plastic wheel! It was called the Fiberide and was 15x6.5 and much lighter than its aluminum counterparts. They were a gleaming gold color, and almost look like a hub cap.

I have a friend who was given a '66 GT fastback that went through the bastrop fires. It was a bare shell at the time - which probably saved it. The car did burn - but the metal is in surprisingly good shape. He is a body guy and is going to build the car. I will get some photos next time I stop by his house.

It was part of a collection of 10-12 early fastbacks (65-70) - and the assembled cars burned (probably due to drivetrain/fuel and interior) to a point where they were not able to be saved.

I thought once a car was in a fire the metal would warp or ripple. Hope he can put it back together!
