I know how us car guys often have other toys hiding in the garage or the back yard. I got a 1989 16.5 foot Maxum open bow boat over the summer and have been tinkering with it. It had sat outside for over a year, uncovered and under an oak tree....scary... I spent most of July cleaning it and fixing all the little stuff. Re-did the seats, installed a good stereo in it, spend hours cleaning it and polishing the hull. It looks a ton better. Anyway I got it running and have had it out on Lake Austin about 6-7 times with family and friends. It's a neat starter boat, but it only has a 50hp Force outboard on it, and I don't think I've seen 20mph yet. Average is 15mph....it's SLOW. It'll pull a tube, but not a skier. With all 6 seats filled, it's good for a blazing 10mph...ha! SO if anyone has an old boat or an old outboard...or has a friend with one...I'm looking for a running 85-90hp outboard, as cheap as possible...ha! Will be selling the 50 once I locate a larger engine. The 50 actually runs great. I tuned it all up, changed the lower unit oil, and it'd be great for a fishing boat or as a kicker for a pontoon boat, but it's not making it on my "ski boat". Ha! Please put the word out. Thanks all! -Mike

Thanks for the link and comments. It took a LOT of cleaning to get it where it is now. Still far from perfect but looks tons better than it did.
And yep my oldest kiddo really likes the little boat! Ha!
On the hunt for a "real" engine for it.
