I have heard serious discussion about applications for restoration of anything from cars to toy trains with these printers. In some cases you just use the part right out of the printer. In other cases you would use the printed part as the form to create a mold to cast the part out of a different material.
I think UT Austin has a lot of these printers that they use for various research.
