Alright, maybe they'll make the toll road into the autobahn in 2012! Way cool! I heard their first focus is in West Texas where the road is straight and boring. I think it's to deter you from stopping in El Paso .

Highway mpg may need to be adjusted for new cars sold in Texas... who the hell can afford to drive that fast?? Good point. I know if I drove that fast in my truck, the fuel economy would be terrible. On the other hand, My brothers Civic can do 80 and still get 30+ mpg.

I have driven that road (I-10) through West Texas, on my way to Fort Davis a few times. The faster you can drive through there, the better. It is a looooong, flat road.
Traffic was already moving at 90 with the 80mph speed limit, so this is really just legitimizing the normal behavior.

Truck max speed is 85-90 , "Light'em up" ! Your truck is governed at about 95 mph. So it can go a tad faster than the speedometer says.

I got pulled over for going 87 in a 80 out there and the cop told me they only give a 5 mph over before they pull you over out there. The 85mph thing will only be on roads not finished yet or not built no existing roads will get it

Saw the San Antonio newspaper yesterday. The 65 night speed limit is going away, and the new speed limit on highways, statewide, is changing to 75, with 85 on some rural western highways.
