Cool, but by the description it sounds like we will only see a slight red shading. Not too sure it's worth getting up/staying up for. A total eclipse would be, but that is occurring in the ocean between here and China?

Article says total eclipse at 5:25 am for CDT. Sounds pretty cool. I'm up then anyway. Sometimes I'm almost to China.

That's the sad part. It's not like a Solar eclipse where you can see the edges of Earth, which I recall seeing before. Looks like this one just turns the Moon red. You won't catch me up at 5:25AM. on purpose, unless i'm on call for work. Have fun with that.

SO I wonder what the difference is in this and a regular eclipse? Because I know I have seen one where there was clearly an Earths round shadow taking over the Moon. The deck around the pool will be completed later today. I plan on getting another good telescope to use on it. I used to have a pretty large reflecting scope, like an 850x or so. I would like to get one that not only has the motor drive tracking, but also has the ability to attach a camera to it and watch the view via a laptop or screen.

The solar eclipse is when the moon is between the sun and the earth...a Lunar eclipse is when the earth is between the sun and the moon. Jeff this is my scope a 8" Meade LX90 its computer driven..i take Afocal photos with both a webcam and a digital cam

Nice. No, I know the difference between Solar and Lunar. I'm saying I have seen a Lunar eclipse where the moon had the Earths shadow on it and it went from full to a crescent, without turning red.

Yeah, I understand that too. I'm just saying I have seen an eclipse with no color. Just the shadow.
Jason, are you gonna stay up and get shots of it?

First shot of the night. I know, it's just a full Moon so far. (I may not be up at 5:25AM) Taken from my deck in the backyard, looking East, 7:30PM. This is just from the camera, no telescope on hand.

Was that just camera or through your telescope? It was taken 'Afocal" Camera over the telescope eyepiece.
