I must say, if you have never done the Hot Rod Power Tour, it is one of those
bucket list, must do at least once in your lifetime events. It is 7 days and roughly
1000-1200 miles of hot rod parade, from town to town, a couple hundred miles at a time.
Each year is different, and begins at the finishing point from the previous year.
This is some of the experience of the 2013 tour that several of us went on.
Each day you roll out of your hotel and join the hundreds of cars on the route to the next location.
Each night, all the hotels are full of hot rods, and the parking lots become small car shows, and socializing.
Great people, endless cool rides, beautiful back roads and Route 66 type highways, people lining the roads waving and cheering,
it's like a huge 7 day parade, and it is indescribable.
Day 1 & 2 Arlington to Texarkana. Brent at :22-orange Nova, Me and Mike at :53-blue Malibu and my red Nova
Day 3 Little Rock
Day 4 Memphis Ted at :07-blue Javelin AMX
Day 5 Memphis to Birmingham
Day 6 Birmingham to Chattanooga (They found the same overlook we did-best part of the tour, in the mountains)
Day 7 Chattanooga to Concorde/Charlotte (2nd day of beautiful scenery in the mountains)
I think this tour was roughly 1225 miles from Arlington to Charlotte/Concorde, but from home to back home,
I clocked 3553 miles. We took 5 days to come back, and enjoyed some of the sights on the way.
Obviously it is best to do it when it begins or ends in Texas, so it isn't crazy far.
But I highly recommend it. It is one of those "must do" events in your life.
I plan to go again, and hope to have a more drivable ride than the big tire Nova by then, and take my wife and family,
in a car with AC and comfort. You have to be a die hard car nut to withstand 7 days of it, plus the trip in or out, but if
you can do it, you will love it and remember it forever.
Hopefully, if you have interest, you can take the time to watch the videos and get the bug.
Enjoy.
