Cool, at a glance they all looked the same, but had wings backwards. Good catch. Any idea why they did this?

Very cool thread Jeff! I know we have swapped old Austin stories at various car nights, but its really cool to see the old pictures! I was born in old Seton hospital and have lived in the Austin area my whole life.. although I got the hell out of the city limits in about 1994 because of traffic!! lol Here is a picture of my grandfathers race car and partstore at 508 South Congress, Im not totally sure when it was taken, but my grandmother says it had to be around 1958 or 59. The flaw is that the control tower ended up stand alone. It was not part of the building like in the model.

mostly the engine configuration created the need for the straight leading edge wings. but that was mostly because it was an older airplane, the 700 series Boeing aircraft were brand new then.. now they are old lol. There are still a lot of airplanes that use the straight leading edge, it does handle a lot better at low speeds and is generally (but not always) a better design for maneuverability and some would argue it is a stronger design, but that depends on construction materials and NACA airfoil they choose, along with CG, HP, angle of incidence, engine choices, weight, range, fuel, load, blah blah blah blah, more airplane nerd stuff..

LOL, well, yeah. That is such a sad sight. The tower was once part of the terminal and now apparently all that is left. Yes, after working somewhere on that airfield for 12 years it is a sad sight.

Here is another, before most of our times, but neat to see. I have the full County map, but it is like 6Mb.

Correction to the above map. 2222 is actually the next road down. The one labeled 2222 is actually Anderson Ln / Spicewood Springs.
Cool to see this stuff though. I grew up just North of Mueller Airport, just to the right of the 25 on the map. It was farm & cattle land back in this period. Hard to imagine that now.

Here is an old pic from back when we would go to the "Aerofest" at Bergstrom AFB and see the Thunderbirds. Here is a pic of the old ZZ TOP car. It sat in the front yard of a house on Keonig Ln for years. (this was before Cheech & Chong introduced "low riders" to America-at least it was the first one I had ever seen)
