Finishing the top end on a rainy night. I painted the Edelbrock intake gloss black to match the engine.

Fixed a few things this am. I had the front wheel cylinders on the wrong sides - so pulled them off and corrected. I also found the issue with my brake drums hitting. My drums are 46, and my hubs are 56. The 56 have a deeper offset, allowing the hub to slide too far back and making contact with the backing plate.. I sourced some early hubs and solved the issue. They are cleaned up and painted and will go on when the paint cures,

Backed the chassis out so that I could clean the garage.

It is starting to look like a car. I was hoping the front would set a little lower. Once I have the body and fenders on I am going to adjust the front down some more. I am going to use the 40 wheels on the truck now, but with smaller diameter pie-crust Firestones. The wheels are going to be powder coated a high-gloss black.

Next Step: Water pump, harmonic balancer, trans cooling line and dust cover, driveshaft, rear brakes. I am using the Zip offset water pump in order to raise the fan to the center of the radiator. Lost some time today due to not having the right hardware to finish up the front of the engine.

Installed the exhaust manifolds and the water pump. The exhaust manifolds are polished stainless rams horns. They are a work of art and the photos can be considered car porn.

For the water pump I installed a Zips adapter. This raises the water pump and fan up 6" so that I can run a mechanical fan. Without it the fan aligns to the bottom of the radiator and will not cool properly. I hate the sound of an electric fan and this one is a really nice unit.

A few updates with the major body work done.








This shot gives a perspective on the size of the truck - with 350 horse power it should fly



Cowl recessed for engine clearance. The cowl firewall panel is a recessed reproduction. However, I went with a 3" recess to save interior leg room. It really needed 5", but that would be with the loss of my foor space asth 5" firewall is just a square recess. In order to clear the engine and save the foot space, Chris re-used the bubbled part from the original firewall.

The frame was too wide for the original Model A bed. The fix was to cut in these boxes for clearance. They will be hidden by the tire and fenders when done:






Fender test fit. Its close, but I am going to take out one leaf and the tires will be 1" taller.





Adjusted the seat riser 2" so that I could sit lower in the cab:





The rear frame kick up also interfered with the bed floor. The original Model A bed has a metal access panel over the rear axle. The fix here was to extend that panel across the width of the bed. The rest of the bed will be the original wooden slats. The wood in the photo looks higher than the metal. It is just an illusion due to the board being too short.

I sold the '40 back in August. I bought a house in San Antonio and had to raise some $$ for the purchase. My wife lives down there now and I will make the move next summer.

Getting ready to hang the fenders and running boards by painting all of the braces and gathering hardware. These early Fords bodies are simple - reminds me of working on a tractor in a lot of ways.

Fortunately with a Model A there are numerous parts vendors and you can get just about anything with a few day turn-around. I just bought the fender bolt & washer kit from a Model A restoration place. Somehow, there are 178 pieces of hardware to mount just the four fenders.

I need a good painter - any recommendations ?

I have relocated to San Antonio - and the truck is back in the garage. The body work is done and I am in the process of refinishing and installing the wood body support braces. It is down to a series of small projects - I am getting excited to get it back on the road.
